A member of George Washington's Staff he served for more than 7 years. He was wounded in the battle of Yorktown. He suffered a broken arm and was honorably discharged. This information is on record at the Was Department in Washington DC. This information is taken from a letter written in October of 1914 by Henry Woodfin Naylor transcribed by Kay Naylor in the 1970's. Joshua was married twice. Naylor, Joshua (1751 or 1756 - June 24,1835, Montgomery County, North Carolina). Private, 1st Maryland Line, 1775-1776; corporal, 4th Maryland Line, Aug 1, 1777; discharged on May 20,1780, in Price George's County, Maryland. He married Mourning Stoggins on June 11, 1782 in Montgomery County, North Carolina. The names and ages of their children who were living in 1822 were: Wade Hampton Naylor, aged 15, Nancy Naylor, aged 12 or 13; Jeremiah Naylor, aged 11; Joshua Naylor aged 9; and George Naylor aged 5. Joshua Nailer applied for a pension (S41914) on July 4, 1820 aged 64 and received it on Feb 1 1822. He died on June 24, 1835 and was married in 1782. They had seven children: George Naylor, Wade Hampton Naylor, Joshua Naylor, Jemima Naylor, and Adelphia Naylor (but the other two children were not mentioned by name). Elizabeth is a descendant from John Woodfin Naylor. (J D and John Webster Naylor were her brothers.) ***According to Henry Woodfin Naylor letter, Joshua had nine sons, all of whom died young except for John. So we have no idea if John was their first, last or somewhere in between. Possibly the latter for Joshua remarried. ***According to Mrs Elizabeth Naylor Moorman in a letter, Joshua had another son by his second wife Wade Hampton Naylor who grew up in John Naylor's home in Bedford Co. All of this is still requiring research but at long last we know that Wade Hampton Naylor was John's half brother.
